Long Hammer IPA Tasting

I picked up a six pack of this today at Schnucks, and cracked into one as I was eating a turkey sandwich and some strawberries.

Long Hammer IPA

Here's another IPA I am trying...

Date: April 9th, 2008

Color: Light, a golden color.

Clarity: Clear

Aroma: A very strong hop aroma with some citrus. Smells like cascade, but I don't know that much.

Head: Mediocre. It could have been my pouring, but there wasn't a ton.

Tasting Notes: I like it. There is a very strong hop aroma which is what I look for in a IPA. It is definitely pretty bitter, which is to be expected, but I would prefer a little less bitter, or some other flavors backing it up. On the whole though, it's a very good IPA, in my opinion.

Rating: 4/5

I had one of these for the first time on tap a couple of weeks ago. You're right, it is Cascade hops all the way - at least to my taste it is! It was okay, but too thin. If it had a little more malt backbone, I think it would be very good. It needs it to balance out the bitterness. The aroma was pretty good. I'd give it a 2.5/5.

First comment! Thanks!

My ratings are really subjective, and probably will be a little too high to start out. I haven't tried all that many beers, and really have only been "tasting" them for a short time. I'm having another out of my 6 pack and I get what you are saying. It is a little bit thin, and I think that's what I was getting at when I was saying it was a little too bitter or I would like some other flavors backing it up.
